The Fool said, "There is No God"
2003 : Week 39 | Printer Friendly Version
Western society is trying to replace the truth of
the Bible with many ideologies. This is not a modern
problem; the world has always tried to grind God’s truth from the
minds, hearts and souls of men. From as far back as the Garden of
Eden, there have been two paths to follow, the truth set forth by
Jehovah God and everything else; everything else is a lie.
One popular notion is that man is good; however this is in direct
contrast to what the Bible teaches us. The Bible teaches us that
we are sinners. The reality is that we have nothing we can present
to a holy and perfect God to appease Him. We have fallen short of
the perfection of God, and we are sinners based on what we have
done, what we do, what we say, what we think or what we have failed
to do.
While Satan is partially responsible for the deception, we read
in today’s passage that man has willingly fallen away; ‘we have
all turned away from Him.’ We have all turned away from God to follow
other things. For some, it’s to follow false gods: Allah, Buddha,
etc. For others, it’s following an idol of their own creation: a
girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband, wealth or perhaps power and
popularity. Whatever it may be, we are all distracted, to one degree
or another from the one true, pure holy and perfect pursuit for
which we are made: worshipping God.
This turning away from God, the Psalm tells us, has ‘left us corrupt.’
Again, not a popular notion in today’s society where we are coddled,
pampered and fed what we want to hear; “You’re a good person.” “If
there’s a heaven, you’ll get there because you’ve done good things.”
While these thoughts are popular, the Bible tells us humanity, all
humanity, is fallen.
Today’s passage is interesting; in it, God separates humanity into
two categories:
- Corrupt humans that are fools because they don’t believe in
Him
- Corrupt humans
There is no third group called “Sinless People”; they do not exist.
The two categories God has indicated encompass everyone.
There is, however, a big difference between sinners that do not
believe in God and sinners who do. Indeed, there is an eternal difference
between these two groups. The difference is that sinners who have
trusted Jesus for salvation are redeemed, and their sins are washed
away by God’s sacrifice on the cross. We will spend eternity with
God because of what He did for us not what we did for Him.
The Bible forces us to take a hard look at ourselves. We can put
up good fronts in public, but when we’re alone, we know the truth
about who we are. We know we have fallen short in one way or another.
Though we might not like to admit it, we see the reality of today’s
scripture verse.
We pray that all who read this are saved by Christ and do not fall
into the category that God has identified as foolish for not believing
in Him. If you don’t know the peace and serenity of salvation yet,
we pray you would reconsider your position before God, and let Him
into your heart. He loves you and wants you to focus on Him. Put
down those things that distract you; your Father has paid the price
for your sins, and He is extending to you the gift of eternal rest
in Him.
May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you
today and always…

Psalm 14:1-3
1 The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good.
2 The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.
3 They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.
